White House welcomes Modi’s victory
The White House welcomed the overwhelming victory of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha polls, offering its congratulations to the BJP on its “historic” win and assuring, “We look forward to working with [the new Indian government] once formed to advance our partnership.”
However, while numerous world leaders, including Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu and Australia’s Tony Abbott reportedly called Mr. Modi to personally congratulate him, U.S. President Barack Obama had not yet done so, at the time this story was filed, at around 11am on Friday Eastern Standard Time.
An official at the White House’s National Security Council press office told The Hindu that there was “nothing further to announce” at this point in terms of whether and when Mr. Obama would reach out to Mr. Modi. The President’s daily schedule sent to media did not include any agenda item for a call with Mr. Modi.
The U.S. has, since 2005, denied Mr. Modi an entry visa on the grounds that he has been linked to curtailments of religious freedom in the context of the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Some groups in the U.S. drew attention to the visa and Gujarat riots issue on Friday, and the Coalition Against Genocide (CAG), an umbrella group focusing on justice and accountability for the pogrom said that it “pledged to continue its struggle with renewed fervour in the wake of the election results in India.”
CAG Spokesperson Raja Swamy underscored Mr. Modi’s alleged links to the RSS cautioning that “During this election campaign, RSS leaders have been openly raking up contentious issues, posing a threat to communal harmony and increasing the prospect of violence against minorities.”
Reactions to the BJP’s stronger-than-anticipated victory in the elections, which became evident during the early hours of Friday local time, were nevertheless broadly positive.

CM Punk Has Had No Contact With WWE And Is Happy At Home
A source very close to the CM Punk / WWE situation has told the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the star hasn’t had contact with his employer in a long time.
Punk had become frustrated with WWE’s booking and the reduced payoffs over the last year, he wasn’t happy on the road and is said to be far more content living at home as a regular person. With his contract expiring in July, Punk seems highly unlikely to resolve things with WWE at this late stage. Even before his departure there had been people backstage who said he was unlikely to stay with the company for another contract.
There is some confusion to what status Punk will actually find himself in after his July expiry date. He may not be free to do other things at that time because WWE could claim that he owes them an additional six months due to failing to complete the final six months on his current deal. This could be a final way for WWE to screw Punk over, but alternatively, they might just be glad to wash their hands of him. It isn’t as if Punk is going to go to another wrestling promotion or do anything that could hurt WWE, his future probably represents very little of interest to the company.
Despite this report from the Observer, there remains some speculation that Punk and WWE could perhaps work out a mega-hot angle for the Payback PPV in Punk’s hometown of Chicago this June 1st. As long as both sides remain silent, we are always going to wonder just what exactly has gone on.

Bill Goldberg WWE Return Plans Revealed
The Bill Goldberg returning to WWE rumors are heating up once again. A few days after it was reported that there was interest from both parties, more details have leaked about potential plans which would be much bigger than originally thought for the former WCW champion.
Alvarez reports in the latest edition of Figure Four Weekly Online that the WWE plan to market Goldberg in the same way they did with the Ultimate Warrior last year. The plan would be to tie Goldberg into a major marketing campaign for the upcoming WWE 2K15 video game. This would be announced around SummerSlam according to Alvarez.
This news led to immediate speculation about this year’s WWE video game. 2K14 built offof the 30th WrestleMania and featured an entire Mania mode in the game. I think a logical guess would be that WCW will play a big part in 2K15 if Goldberg is involved in the promotion. This would also tie in the upcoming Monday Night Wars series on the WWE Network. I would have to guess that there will be some kind of WCW vs. WWE mode or just a standalone WCW mode.
I don’t see why they wouldn’t go down the WCW road at this point. They already have Ric Flair under contract and just acquired Sting a few weeks ago. This could also play a part in Sting’s role once he appears on-air. Maybe they do some kind of a rehashed invasion angle with Sting and Goldberg? It is about time that they do a little more with WCW in terms of branding and promotion.
I speculated last week about Goldberg’s match at WrestleMania. Maybe they do some kind of WCW legends vs. WWE legends match? Sting and Goldberg could team up with someone or just each other and take on a team of Rock and someone else. Before you jump to Steve Austin I’d think that you have a better chance of seeing Austin elsewhere than a nostalgia match. Either way, the video game should dovetail into something bigger down the line.
