Projecting Sting's Future Involvement with WWE

Look for Sting to be a part of WWE beyond appearing in a video game.
The potential drawing power of a man who never appeared or wrestled for WWE is too great to not tap into. The WWE2K15 involvement should prove to just be a gateway to more, Sting making his way onto Raw, stepping into the WWE Hall of Fame and singing his in-ring swan song.
Recent interviews and backstage reports point at Sting's desire to fully embrace the WWE chapter of his career. Vince McMahon is too opportunistic not to milk that.
On the July 14 Raw, fans grew quiet when a video aired on the big screen. The shadow of a man wielding a baseball bat cut across the floor.
An unsettling, face-painted orchestra played as he turned toward the camera.
This was Sting's WWE debut, but not really. It was only a promotional video for the upcoming WWE 2K15 video game.
As fun as it will be to insert him into the virtual WWE world when the game comes out, the focus quickly has shifted toward questions about his future. What else will Sting do for the company? Will he actually wrestle?
Sting reportedly told TMZ that his contract doesn't involve him wrestling but that he wants to get a deal done that would get him in the ring. A WWE source clarified to F4WOnline that the current deal is with 2K Sports, not with WWE.
Still, it's clear that a relationship is blossoming between both sides.
Earlier in the year, Sting reflected on his relationship with the late Ultimate Warrior for a special that aired on the WWE Network. WWEalso featured a video playlist of Sting's dark side on its website. His shirts have gone up on sale on WWE's website.

Triple H mentioned him in an interview with Michael Cole, responding to a question about Sting wrestling for the company by saying, "Never say never."
This is after years of generally not recognizing his existence. It appears that fans are nearing what they once thought was impossible—Sting in a WWE ring.

Raw, Hall of Fame
With as friendly as WWE and Sting's relationship has become, it seems a safe bet that they will work something out. WWE can boost its WWENetwork numbers with Sting nostalgia at a high level. It can sell more Sting merchandise.
So often, Raw's special guests from the past are wrestlers fans have seen not all that long ago. Ric Flair has been on the show several times. Shawn Michaels and Mick Foley don't go long before showing up on Raw again.
Sting, though, has spent his entire career working elsewhere.
There's no bigger star that WWE could bring into its fold for the first time. WWE welcomed most of WCW's biggest names when it bought the rival company out in 2001. Most of ECW's standouts have been a part of WWE as well, and the majority of TNA's stars were with WWE in the past, even if it was just briefly.
That creates a unique and intriguing scenario. Sting debuting on Raw, even in a non-wrestling capacity, would be one of the biggest moments in the show's history.
How much that would affect ratings is too powerful of an incentive forWWE to pass up.
McMahon and company apparently have more in mind that just trotting out the former WCW and TNA star in a segment on Raw. According to PWInsider (h/t WrestlingInc), there has been talk of inducting Sting into the Hall of Fame in 2015.
That would have him follow his former tag-team partner Ultimate Warrior's lead, using a video game deal as a segue into a Hall of Fame induction. The fact that the ceremony would happen in Sting's home state of California makes the timing more fitting.
Would WWE induct someone into its Hall whose accomplishments were for another company?
History says yes. The WWE Hall of Fame welcomed Abdullah the Butcher, who plied his trade in Japan, Puerto Rico and various NWAterritories, but not WWE
Much of Gorgeous George's career predates WWE's existence. Verne Gagne not only spent the bulk of his career with the AWA, he was its owner and promoter, a rival of McMahon's.
The possibility of Sting getting a Hall of Fame nod came up in a recent interview with the Mirror. In it, he said, "Obviously it would be a great honour to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. It's nothing that I would say no to, that's for sure."
With as much buzz as Sting joining the Hall of Fame would create, it's a safe bet that WWE will award him that honor.

One More Match
Fans are most concerned, though, if Sting is going to wrestle again. Despite him being 55 years old, there's a lot of anticipation surrounding him stepping between the ropes for WWE.
In the aforementioned interview with the MirrorSting said, "I think, or at least I'm hoping, that Taker's still going to come back and that he's not done. If he's not done, and he would consider doing it, I'd love to work with him one time. I'd love to wrestle him one time before I call it quits."
He reiterated that to David Shoemaker (The Masked Man) onGrantland.
Sting called him going up against Undertaker a dream match and said that he was "hoping for an opportunity" to face him. When Shoemaker asked him how much he had left in him, he responded, "One more match. That's what I’m hoping to do, and I'd like it to be Taker, and then I'll hang it up."
All that talk comes as no surprise.
That match has been a source of speculation for years. Sting's age won't allow him to go on a sustained run, so a singular in-ring bout makes sense. There are signs, however, that Sting's farewell bout may be with someone else, though.
One concern is Undertaker's health.
After his match with Brock Lesnar, Undertaker spent the night in a medical facility suffering from a severe concussion. Every year as of late has forced fans to wonder if it's Undertaker's time to retire.
Injuries, surgeries and Father Time keep threatening to end his storied career.
He looked to be in bad shape during the Lesnar match and was clearly worse off when it ended. The fact that WWE seems to be gauging fan interest in other potential matches is a possible sign that officials doubt that Undertaker is coming back.

Undertaker enters at WrestleMania 30. Was this his last match?
WWE.com listed five potential dream matches for Sting. With JohnCena, Triple H, Kane, Chris Jericho and Bray Wyatt as the options, the company also posted a poll asking which opponent fans would like to see Sting face.
As of this writing, Wyatt leads the vote with 31 percent. Cena sits right behind him at 29 percent.
There is no mention of Undertaker.
Count on either Wyatt and Cena being the choice for Sting's opponent. Wyatt offers a young, promising talent, and he'd benefit greatly from being the man to last topple Sting.
Sting appears to a be fan of him as well. He told the Mirror that Wyatt was an "unbelievable talent on the microphone and in ring, a very physical guy."

Sting vs. Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 31?
The Stinger also said that he "always wanted to work with the likes of The Rock, John Cena and Randy Orton."
Cena has been WWE's go-to choice for incoming big stars. He faced Brock Lesnar after his return and The Rock at two straightWrestleManiasCena certainly doesn't mind the rub that would come with taking on Sting, but his star power makes it an intriguing collision.
WWE is going to have choose between boosting an emerging star or banking on an established one when it decides on Sting's foe. He's only got one bullet left in the chamber.
He'll create some memorable moments in front of WWE cameras before shooting it.

WWE SmackDown Results: July 18, 2014

Two nights before Battleground, the 778th edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown came to you from the Cumberland County Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC. With a one-on-one match against the leader of The Wyatt Family, Bray Wyatt, at Battleground, Chris Jericho would be looking to send a message to Bray Wyatt when “Y2J” faces The Wyatt Family’s Luke Harper on SmackDown!
For the first time since being assaulted by Randy Orton, Kane, & Seth Rollins on RAW, “The Lunatic Fringe” Dean Ambrose would kick off SmackDown to address The Authority’s attack on him on Monday night, as well as his match against Seth Rollins at Battleground. What kind of condition will Dean Ambrose be in following the assault? What kind of statement will “The Lunatic Fringe” make before he squares off with Seth Rollins?
Also on SmackDown, six of the twenty participants in the Battleground Battle Royal to crown a new Intercontinental Champion would be in action as United States Champion Sheamus would team with “The Show-Off” Dolph Ziggler to face The Miz and Fandango, in addition to Alberto Del Rio going one-on-one with Kofi Kingston.

Match Results

  • Sheamus & Dolph Ziggler def. The Miz & Fandango by Dolph Ziggler pinning The Miz following the Zig Zag.
  • Special Referee- Nikki Bella: Alicia Fox and Eva Marie fight to a No Contest after both Alicia Fox and Eva Marie attack Nikki Bella.
  • Chris Jericho def. Luke Harper (with Bray Wyatt & Erick Rowan) by roll-up.
  • Alberto Del Rio def. Kofi Kingston by pin following the double stomp off of the top rope.
  • AJ Lee & Paige def. Layla & Summer Rae by Summer Rae tapping out to AJ Lee’s Black Widow.
  • Dean Ambrose def. Kane by DQ after Seth Rollins interferes.

Detailed Results

Two nights before he goes one-on-one with Seth Rollins at Battleground, SmackDown kicks off with “The Lunatic Fringe” Dean Ambrose as Ambrose says that all he has heard for the last two years was how “smart” Seth Rollins is. Ambrose then says that, on RAW, Rollins was smart enough to know that he could not handle Ambrose one-on-one so he enlisted the help of Kane and Randy Orton to beat him down. Ambrose continues, saying that, if Rollins thinks that the three-on-one beatdown on RAW was enough to stop him from destroying Rollins at Battleground, then he is sorely mistaken. Ambrose then asks if that is all The Authority has got for him before “The Lunatic Fringe” calls out Seth Rollins. However, “Mr. Money-in-the-Bank” opts to appear on the Tron, saying that Ambrose has more guts than brains and there is nothing in the world that he would love more than to come down to the ring and Curb Stomp Ambrose’s head into the mat, but he “tweaked” his knee on Monday night and he hasn’t been cleared to compete. However, Dean Ambrose doesn’t buy it, telling Seth Rollins that Rollins is “scared”, but he should “make daddy proud”. Rollins says that he is going to give Ambrose the chance to prove how “tough” he really is because he just talked to WWE COO Triple H and, tonight, Dean Ambrose will have to go one-on-one with “The Devil’s Favorite Demon” Kane!
Before they join sixteen other Superstars in the Battleground Battle Royal to determine a new Intercontinental Champion, the opening match of the night would see United States Champion Sheamus team up with “The Show-Off” Dolph Ziggler to face The Miz and Fandango in tag team action. In the end, it was Sheamus taking Fandango out with the Brogue Kick before Dolph Ziggler hits the Zig Zag on The Miz, pinning the self-proclaimed “A-Lister” to pick up the win for himself and Sheamus.
Alicia Fox would go one-on-one with Eva Marie on SmackDown and, per the orders of WWE Principal Owner Stephanie McMahon, Nikki Bella would serve as the Special Referee. During the match, an argument would break out between Eva Marie and Nikki Bella before the plan became apparent as Alicia Fox kicks Nikki Bella in the mid-section before both Eva Marie and Alicia Fox beat Nikki down. Alicia would then hit the Axe Kick on Nikki Bella, leaving Nikki laid out and no doubt making Stephanie McMahon happy.
Before facing the leader of The Wyatt Family, Bray Wyatt, this Sunday at Battleground, Chris Jericho was in action on SmackDown as “Y2J” would go one-on-one with The Wyatt Family’s Luke Harper, with Bray Wyatt & Erick Rowan in his corner. During the match, Chris Jericho would lock in the Walls of Jericho on Luke Harper, but a distraction from Erick Rowan would seemingly give Harper the advantage. However, Jericho would manage to catch Harper in a roll-up, quickly scoring the three-count to pick up the win. After the match, Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan would enter the ring and The Wyatt Family was set to leave Jericho laid out again, but The Usos would rush to the ring, making the save and sending The Wyatt Family packing.
Two nights before Jack Swagger faces Rusev at Battleground, Zeb Colter would appear on SmackDown with Jack Swagger in tow. Zeb says that they are “sick and tired” of Rusev & Lana insulting America and, while he has been critical of the American government in the past, it is his right as an American to discuss American politics. Colter continues, saying that Rusev & Lana are only there because they are allowing them to be there and vowing that, this Sunday at Battleground, Swagger will be “crush-proof”. Zeb then asks the fans in attendance to stand up and proclaim “we the people”. Rusev & Lana then come out to address Colter & Swagger as Lana says that, at Battleground, Rusev will “crush” Jack Swagger. As the crowd chants “USA”, Rusev and Swagger both wave their nation’s flags proudly.
Two of the twenty participants in the Battleground Battle Royal to crown a new Intercontinental Champion were in action on SmackDown as “The Mexican Aristocrat” Alberto Del Rio went one-on-one with Kofi Kingston. In the end, it was Alberto Del Rio crushing Kofi Kingston with a double stomp off of the top rope en route to picking up the win.
Battleground opponents would team up on SmackDown as, two nights before she defends the Divas Title against Paige, Divas Champion AJ Lee would team with Paige to face Layla & Summer Rae in Divas tag action. During the match, Paige would have things well in hand, but AJ Lee tags herself into the match, locking in the Black Widow on Summer Rae, making Summer tap out to pick up the win. After the match, Paige would glare angrily at AJ Lee, but the Divas Champion would smile and extend her hand with Paige pulling AJ Lee in for a hug before AJ and Paige celebrate their win.
Then it was time for the main event as, two nights before he goes one-on-one with Seth Rollins at Battleground, “The Lunatic Fringe” Dean Ambrose would have the unenviable task of going one-on-one with “The Devil’s Favorite Demon” Kane. During the match, the battle between Kane and Dean Ambrose would spill to the outside and Kane would get the better of Ambrose before “The Devil’s Favorite Demon” would take the steel steps apart. Kane was then set to deliver the Tombstone Piledriver to Ambrose on the steel steps, but Ambrose would fight out of Kane’s grasp and would take Kane down. However, just as Ambrose began to build momentum against Kane, Seth Rollins would run down and blast Ambrose in the back of the head with the Money-in-the-Bank briefcase, bringing an end to the match. With the match concluded, Kane and Seth Rollins would bring the bottom half of the steel steps into the ring, but Dean Ambrose would take Seth Rollins down, getting a few shots in on Rollins before Kane pulls Ambrose off of Rollins, planting him with the chokeslam. Seth Rollins then instructs Kane to set Ambrose up on the steel steps and “The Devil’s Favorite Demon” complies as Kane holds Ambrose in place so that Seth Rollins can drive Ambrose’s skull into the steel with the Curb Stomp! Seth Rollins then stands over the prone body of Dean Ambrose, holding the Money-in-the-Bank briefcase high as Kane continues to lurk around the ring.

NASA: ALIENS and NEW EARTHS will be ours inside 20 years

A group of top NASA scientists told the space agency's chief yesterday that the forthcoming generation of space telescopes are likely to discover habitable Earth-like worlds and probably alien life – perhaps within 20 years.
We're all someone's Sun
"Sometime in the near future, people will be able to point to a star and say, 'that star has a planet like Earth'," said Sara Seager, professor of planetary science and physics at MIT.
"Just imagine the moment, when we find potential signatures of life," concurred Matt Mountain, a top space telescope boffin. "Imagine the moment when the world wakes up and the human race realizes that its long loneliness in time and space may be over - the possibility we're no longer alone in the universe."
“I think in the next 20 years we will find out we are not alone in the universe,” added NASA astronomer Kevin Hand.
The assembled boffins were excited about the near future, in particular at the prospect of the James Webb Space Telescope's deployment to the Earth-Sun L2 point, far beyond the Moon's orbit, where – among other things – it will be able to probe the atmospheres of far-flung exoplanets circling other suns. The mighty JWST, a collaboration between NASA and international allies, is currently planned to lift off in 2018.
Other exciting developments in the field of exoplanetology are to include the proposed Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope - Astrophysics Focused Telescope Assets (WFIRST-AFTA) early in the next decade, and the Transiting Exoplanet Surveying Satellite (TESS) in 2017.
These various space observatories will to a large extent be carrying out in-depth investigation of exoplanets previously discovered by other means such as the Kepler spacecraft.
"This technology we are using to explore exoplanets is real," enthused John Grunsfeld, a physics PhD and veteran astronaut with five Shuttle flights logged, now employed as a NASA science chief. "The James Webb Space Telescope and the next advances are happening now. These are not dreams - this is what we do at NASA."
The head of NASA himself, Charles Bolden (a former shuttle pilot and US Marine general) ranged himself firmly alongside his top boffins in the aliens-are-surely-out-there camp.
"It's highly improbable in the limitless vastness of the universe that we humans stand alone," he stated. ®

NASA scientists say they're closer than ever to finding life beyond Earth

you believe there must be extraterrestrial life somewhere in the immensity of the universe, here's some good news: Top NASA scientists agree with you, and at a panel discussion on Monday, they said they were closer than ever to finding out for sure.
Former astronaut and NASA Administrator Charles Bolden set the tenor of the hourlong conversation about how NASA planned to look for life on other planets in his introductory remarks.
"Do we believe there is life beyond Earth?" he asked. "I would venture to say that most of my colleagues here today say it is improbable that in the limitless vastness of the universe we humans stand alone."
He added that while he was in space back in 1990, he did not encounter any extraterrestrial life forms, but he did look for them - really hard, and all the time.
Seated on the panel were some of NASA's top scientists, including Ellen Stofan, NASA's chief scientist; John Grunsfeld, a former astronaut and NASA's associate administrator; John Mather, senior project scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope; and Dave Gallagher, director of astronomy and physics at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Sara Seager, a planetary scientist at MIT, and Matt Mountain, director of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, were also on the panel.
Though some NASA scientists are looking for signs of life in our solar system - most aggressively on Mars, but perhaps soon on one of the ice moons - the scientists on the panel spoke exclusively about looking for signs of life on planets around other stars.
Thanks to data collected by the Kepler Space Telescope, launched in 2009, scientists now estimate that nearly every star in our galaxy has at least one planet circling it.
The launch of the James Webb Space Telescope in 2018 will help scientists see whether any of those billions of planets have the right chemical fingerprint to suggest they harbor life. Specifically, they are looking for gases in the planet's atmosphere that could only be produced by life. But even with a telescope the size of James Webb, chances of success are low.
"With the James Webb, we have the first capability of finding life on other planets, but we have to get lucky; we have to beat the odds," Seager said.
But as the space telescopes launched by NASA get bigger and bigger, the odds of finding life will get better and better. Seager and Gallagher spoke about new technologies in development that may make it easier to find smaller, Earth-sized planets.
The smaller planets that are most similar to our own are incredibly difficult to discern because they shine very faintly compared to their host star. So researchers at JPL are working on creating a sunflower-shaped starshade, which would be launched in tandem with a space telescope. It would block out starlight, making it easier to see the planets around stars.
"We believe we are very close in terms of science and technology to finding another Earth, and signs of life on another world," Seager said.
There was a question-and-answer session at the end of the panel. One question, posed by a person on social media, stood out: "If scientists do find life on another planet, will the U.S. government let people know?"
Stofan fielded that one. "Of course we would!" she said without hesitation. "That would be so amazingly exciting. We would try to get it out to the public as fast as we can. We want everyone to share in the excitement of discovery."
As to what you can do to help scientists on their search for life on other planets, Seager said they are working on it.
"I've started to get asked that question a lot, and we are working on a better answer for you," she said. "We are finding untold numbers of people who want to help us."

undertaker vs sting wrestlemania 31

Wrestling fans have clamored for a dream encounter between The Undertaker and Sting for years. As it turns out, the latter half of that equation is more than willing to make it reality.
According to Rob Leigh of Mirror, Sting desires to close his career on a high note with one final match and he wants Taker to be his opponent at WrestleMania XXXI.
I've made it clear I'd love to have one last hurrah, one last big match hopefully. And of course I've been outspoken about Undertaker being the opponent. I know what happened at WrestleMania where Brock Lesnar broke his streak. I think, or at least I'm hoping, that Taker's still going to come back and that he's not done. If he's not done, and he would consider doing it, I'd love to work with him one time. I'd love to wrestle him one time before I call it quits.
This proclamation comes on the heels of Sting finally having some meaningful involvement with WWE for the first time in his nearly 30-year wrestling career. During Monday's edition of Raw, a promo for WWE 2K15 was released revealing Sting as a playable pre-order character.
As seen in this tweet courtesy of WWE 2K, the company has gone to great lengths to promote Sting already:

WWE has also released Sting shirts on its website and posted several articles looking at The Icon's illustrious career. Although no particulars have been released regarding Sting's potential deal with WWE, all signs point toward this being something more than a freelance agreement.
When Sting tweeted out a cryptic message nearly a week before the July 14 edition of Raw, fans wondered whether or not he might make a live appearance:

That didn't come to fruition, but Sting has made his intention to have some type of interaction with WWE and its fans quite clear, per Leigh.
"Why now? It's a now or never thing," Sting said. "I've done so many things in the wrestling business but the one thing I'd never done was wrestle or be a part of the WWE family. I didn't want to hang it all up and retire and disappear again without having done that in some capacity."

Will Sting vs. The Undertaker happen at WrestleMania XXXI?

SUBMIT VOTE vote to see results
The ball is seemingly in The Phenom's court when it comes to a potential match between he and Sting, but Stinger offered a suggestion for when and where he would like the bout to take place if it does ultimately happen.
"How about San Francisco, 2015, in April," Sting said.
That, of course, refers to WrestleMania XXXI, which could prove to be the swan song for both he and The Undertaker. After Taker's 21-0 streak on the grandest stage of them all was broken by Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX, there is a great deal of uncertainty regarding his status moving forward.
Even though the vaunted streak is no longer intact, a match against Sting is worth coming back for. The streak simply isn't needed to make that encounter important as it would feature two of the darkest and most captivating characters in the history of professional wrestling.
The Undertaker is 49 years of age while Sting is 55, so cynics might argue that the in-ring work wouldn't be elite. Taker always manages to raise his performance level at WrestleMania, though, and Sting knows it would be his one chance to have a legacy in WWE.
Taker and Sting are two of the greatest wrestlers of all time. They are true pros who would do everything in their power to put on a WrestleMania classic. The stare-down alone would be enough to send chills up and down the spine of any wrestling fan.
It takes two to tango, so nothing is set in stone until The Undertaker reciprocates interest. Getting Sting in WWE has always been the biggest challenge, so the fact that he is in place and willing to lock horns with Taker means that there is more hope than ever for fans who want the ultimate dream match to happen.
